Handsome Kolohe Kolohe [koh loh' hay] - Deaf
Kolohe means mischievous in Hawaiian. Hmmm...wonder how he got that name? This young lad is about 1 year and 3 months old and 45 lbs. He knows sign language for basic obedience commands and is house trained (he'll let you know when he needs to go out and back in again). His current hobby is stealing, then stashing or destroying baby toys (but he loves to suck on binkies). Kolohe counts pugs, a Rottweiler, a Great Dane mix, a Yorkie, a silkie chicken and cats among his best buddies; and he enjoys being a furry jungle gym and pull toy for a 10 month old toddler. For more information on deaf dogs, we recommend The Deaf Dog Education Action Fund and really like its pages on deaf dog myths and deaf dog humor. Click here for more pictures of Kolohe.

3/15: Kolohe is back as he began to assert dominance over his hopeful family's 2yo daughter. His ideal home would be a busy one (night and day) with teenagers and one or two other doggie buddies.

ScrumpyDoo

Scrumpy
Scrumpy was found as a stray, ID'd by his owner, then was relinquished to the shelter when his family decided that they did not have the time for him. So far, we've found this 4yo guy to be a very sweet, affectionate and gentle. Scrumpy is about 50lbs and appears to be in good overall health. We had erroroneously listed Scrumpy as being 2 years old and recently noticed that his former owner listed his age to 4 on the updated shelter records.

Although Scrumpy nipped at the shelter's Assess-A-Hand while playing with a toy, this behavior has not been observed during his kenneling. He seems to be a good sport so far with cats and other dogs. Our kennel reports that he likes to cradle a blanket at night and nurse on it.

Scud
Scud
Probably named after the Toy Story character, Scud was surrendered to the shelter as he was fighting with the family's male bulldog. He was not reactive with the obnoxious dogs at the shelter and gave lots of play bows to Ned the rescue. Scud will need a refresher in obedience and leash manners; he is people-focused and outgoing.

About 1.5 years old and about 40-45lbs, Scud is fully vaccinated. He seems be social with other dogs and has been ignoring slow-moving cats.

Zippy Zippy
Just a tad over a year old, Zippy came into our program as he was fighting with the resident male dog (but apparently good with dogs outside of his home). This dominant and energetic 53lb guy is housebroken and heels on a leash, but will need some crate and obedience training. His hobbies including playing fetch with a tennis ball and digging for gophers.

5/10: Zippy is actually quite a good dog and cracks us up with his random spurts of energy and goofiness. He takes to corrections wonderfully and has even tried to get Oski to play with him. He'll do best as the only dog in the household but may be OK with a submissive female. Zippy has displayed food aggression towards other dogs but not with humans.

Sedgewick
Sedgewick ADOPTION PENDING
Free-range Sedgewick had 4 acres of land to keep him occupied so leash and crate training will be new concepts for him. He entered our program as he was fighting with the resident male dogs. Sedgewick is people-focused and quite well behaved for a puppy that's just a hair over a year old. He has his bouncy moments but will readily settle down for cuddles/naps. Sedgewick is house-trained and loves to spend his days indoors.

5/11: Being kenneled turned Sedgewick's world a little topsy turvy so he was getting a bit depressed. His hopeful dad is newly retired - - this means 24/7 attention for Sedgewick!

Oski
Oski
Oski came into our program as she injured the resident female dachshund during one of their many ongoing feuds. Oski's about 15 months old and 47lbs. She seems to be good with most dogs, just not with another dominant female. She has peacefully lived with 5 cats and was good friends with the neighbor's 4yo son.

Oski knows basic obedience, is housebroken, good with an easy-walker lead, and is about 60% crate trained.

5/10: Oski is a very sweet girl! She has little energy spurts but loves to sleep on sofas. Oski declined Zippy's invitations to play, choosing instead to hang out with people and spending quality time with them on the couch.

Waiting in the Bull Pen
These recent/pending arrivals are being vetted and/or evaluated. Please check back soon for updates!

Due to the number of dogs in our program, advance applications for foster/permanent homes are welcomed!

Beach BoyBeach Boy
This guy was happily walking on the beach and making new friends when he was swooped up by a Good Samaritan and brought to the shelter. The shelter pegged his age as 12 but we think he's closer to 8 to 10. This 61lb cheerful guy has been housed with a female lab mix at the shelter without any problems.

Beach Boy is super sweet, people focused, outgoing and quite active as he just had to gave us play bows! He has lumps on his stomach which we hope are the usual fatty lumps that come with age. Kennel life is so much harder on the seniors; if you can help with fostering this guy after his evaluation period, please contact Suz at 415/672-7391 or at suz@bullyhaven.org.

We'd like to run a senior blood panel on this guy and aspirate a tumor or two. If you can help with sponsoring a portion of the $225 estimate, please let us know.

5/3: Thank you, Jessica Sosa & Julia C., for thinking of our seniors and donating $325 for Beach Boy's blood panel, tumor check, and aftercare! Beach Boy's appointment will be made for the week of 5/5.

Thanks also to Terry Houston for the generous donation to help the next senior or needy dog's vet fees!

5/10: Beach Boy's blood panel was put on hold pending his tumor results. I am heartsick to report that he has rotten back teeth, cancerous tumors (with aggressive cells) on his leg and stomach, and a Grade 2/3 heart murmur. In addition, it is highly likely that the cancer has metastized. I can't in good conscience put him through the the pain and trauma of extractions if he'll succumb to cancer in the coming weeks/months. He's still in great spirits and although he panicked in a major way at the hospital, he's a couch potato back at the kennel. Our vets have prescribed him medication to keep him comfortable in the weeks ahead - - if anyone can give this wonderful old man a place where he can snooze indoors during his remaining time, please contact me. Bull Terrier Rescue will provide for his food, medications and final in-home call. ~ Suz

RenaRena RE-EVALUATION IN PROGRESS
Rena was found as a stray in Reno. She's about 2-3 years old and about 45lbs. Rena's calm and gentle, and very shy. We wish that we knew more about her history as this sweet and silly girl is afraid of her own shadow. She's also shy around cats and other dogs and prefers to peek at them while hiding behind you.

We're hoping to find a very nurturing spot for this little sweetpea, one that will have time to build her confidence, socialize her and help her slowly crawl out from under her little rock.

4/11: Lucky Rena has landed in a wonderful foster home where she's already being a goofy girl with humans and having a blast playing with other dogs. She seems to already know basic obedience and loves to shake for treats. What's your story, little one?

5/7: Rena has displayed some inappropriate fear behaviors and is being re-evaluated.

CookieCookie Financial Support Needed
The Cookie Monster is a delightful little girl who is very affectionate, outgoing and full of tail wags. This playful little one is about a year old and 40lbs. She may have issues with her hind legs (she favors her right leg and the other shakes) but that didn't stop her from tearing around the house and playing with former rescue Azteca. Cookie is quiet in her crate and is a great little traveler.

4/25: Both of our vets were in tears after looking at Cookie's x-rays. Her rear right leg had been left untreated after it was broken near the hip months ago. Her left rear leg shakes from the extra stress. None of us could imagine the excruciating pain that this little girl had endured. And yet, she is still such a sweetheart with people, children, cats and other dogs. Her total vet fees are estimated to be $1100 for her spay, mange treatment, leg surgery and aftercare. Cookie will require about two months of crate rest so we're hoping to find her a foster spot where she could recover in a home environment. Please contact Suz if you can help with a portion of her vet fees or if you can foster this little dumpling. Cookie's Leg

4/30: Cookie is resting comfortably after surgery. Her right femoral bone was fractured where the hip goes into the pelvis. The broken portion of bone has been removed and remainder smoothed. In time, her soon-to-grow muscles will compensate for the bone loss. Since she was also spayed while she was under anesthesia, Cookie is peacefully on pain meds tonight and the next several days.

5/3: : Thanks to Roma, Jill H., Kevin & Cindy W., KG & Memo, Terry Houston and St. Malo, we have $1100 in the kitty for her surgeries! Special thanks to Janice M. for the interim housing and for transporting this lttle doll from Fresno to the Bay Area!

5/10: Cookie is recovering at an amazing pace! She has already tried to put weigh on the leg and is eager to play with anyone she meets. Her crate rest will continue to ensure that her leg heals properly.

We are eternally grateful to Animal Hospital of Sebastopol for giving us a huge discount on Cookie's vet fees, and to Bundocks Kennels for always being there to help our needy eggheads.

Maggie MayMaggie May "Wild Thing, You Make My Heart Sing"
Maggie May is a super exuberant little girl who lives life to the fullest and is a bonafide party girl! She's approximately 2 years old and roughly 45 pounds. She's goofy, outgoing and people-oriented. Not having been given any boundaries in her young life, she'll need basic training and a home where training and pack leadership are consistently maintained. Maggie May is bouncy and can get quite mouthy when excited, yet there's something wildly irresistible about her. She fence fought with a couple of obnoxious dogs at the shelter but was a good sport with a submissive female pit bull (see her video here).
